Journaling prompt: What are your favorite summer-associated foods?

I feel like if you asked me this 10 or 15 years ago, I would have an answer... But these days I eat the same microwaveable food year-round, and I can't even think of any summery foods off the top of my head. Many other people answered BBQ, and I do think of BBQ as a summer thing when reminded of it, but it didn't come to mind on my own. Plus I haven't had any in a long, long time.

Journaling: What is making you smile these days? Create a top 10 list of anything you want to talk about.

This got long. Again. )

This was one of those weeks in our household. Events included my mother's consultation over her denture, which now won't be fixed until mid-August at the earliest, and her computer getting hit by a very scary virus, albeit one the IT people were able to remove very quickly once they remoted in. Meanwhile, I spent it trying to get a second refill of my bentyl after the I failed to get the first, even though the USPS website claimed it had been delivered. The way the post office has been going lately, I would have much rather gone to pick it up in person, but that proved impossible when Kaiser has no pharmacies open on weekends closer than Woodbridge! I got the email saying it shipped today, and I just have to hope it actually shows up this time. I've had to reduce my doses, and I'm currently trying to figure out the results of that.
I spent the weekend watching Wimbledon. I ended up turning off the ladies singles final, because that was just painful, but enjoyed the men's and both doubles finals.

Journaling Prompt: The romance of summer! What do you love? Write about anything you feel sentimental about or that gets your heart pumping.

I love music. I play it as often as I can. I wear my earphones basically 24/7 outside of my room, on music tracking sites they note how much more I listen to music than the average person, I don't watch YouTube videos of people talking because it irks me that I could just read whatever they want to say while I get to keep my music on, and even within a culture that loves music I thought that I felt music more deeply than others when I was very little. (I now think that's probably not true, not because I have proof of otherwise, but because I'm less self-centered and "the world revolves around meeeeee"-brained than I was when I was 7. Hopefully.)

I also love animation. It's cool when someone can draw well, but you know what's cooler? When someone can make dozens or hundreds of drawings that, when seen in rapid succession, imitate movement. It takes a lot of patience and skill, and I always found it more appealing than live action. And when I thought anime was the coolest thing on earth, naturally my love for the art form quadrupled.

Now imagine... what if... some sicko combined music AND animation and created some kind of animated music video...

You're right. That would be really weird. Thank GOD no one's done it before.

Journaling Prompt: Light up your journal with activity this month. Talk about your goals for July or for the second half of 2025.

Because I'm obsessed with making lists, especially to-do lists, I actually do have a list of well-defined goals to finish by the end of this month. I'm only going to share the ones I'm pretty sure I'll complete, because it's really embarrassing saying you're going to do something and then not doing it.

  • Translate 5 chapters of that thing I'm translating.
  • Translate one smaller thing, like a one-shot or interview or something.
  • Finish one (1) singular illustration.
  • Finish one book of original English-language fiction.
    • To the readers here this probably seems crazy to have to add as a goal, but I usually use comics to fulfill my fiction needs, and read nonfiction otherwise. For my future job I need to read more fiction in my native language though, so here I am. Although, I'm also told I need to be reading contemporary fiction, to know what readers expect now... instead what I'm reading is from the 60s and 70s. I have a problem, I think.

My goals for the second half of the year? I just want my driver's license and to graduate college TT I know I'll hate having a job too (when I had one for a while I was like "so... is this just it for the rest of my life?" and my sanity meter started draining, but I went back to school before it could empty), but I'm so over school. And I would like to go to the places I want when I want! Looking forward to that!! I don't live in a place where depending on public transportation is feasible for an exciting life.

As for the creative prompt, I had started a drawing (completely unrelated to this event, but I was going to share it regardless), but I wasn't able to finish it in time. I'm trying to figure out what's causing me to be such a slow artist lately - lately meaning the past 5 years or so - but I hope I can do at least one of the creative prompts. I know there's not actually any time limit, so maybe I'll do them all even if it takes a while... I still haven't even finished the Snowflake Challenge though. ^^; I forgot about it until just now, although it's in one of my many to-do lists.

Here's to hoping I'm able to accomplish everything I want. 🙏🏾

As usual, I am spending the fourth at home, watching Wimbledon. Though this is another weekend I feel the need to hide at home, because of the kind of people who have likely come to DC to celebrate this year. No doubt feeling very smug about everything being destroyed yesterday. Some of them will likely suffer from it, of course, but I know better than to even hope most the suffering will be by those who brought this all on.
I have other concerns. My mother's denture broke this week, and it's going to be five long days before she can get things fixed. Until then, there's a severe limit to what she can eat. She and I have both been hit with the headaches this week, which is probably mostly the heat; the heat dome's gone, but even the normal temperatures are terrible right now. I don't think that second date's happening. His texting behavior has gotten weird, I don't believe all he's claiming, and I'm currently battling back paranoid thoughts about it all. My sister and I did at least get our plane tickets to San Diego, but she's been having a worse month.
It's nice out in the evenings, though. Coming home from D&D Wednesday night, I got to see fireflies. Last night, I also finally got a Steam account. Their human verification process is now one I've never seen before, clicking where lines cross, but it works just fine. I bought and started Date Everything! but I struggled so much to get out of the office that I called it for the night as soon as I was able to save my progress.

This time it's assorted things about gender and sexuality, and then a bunch of entertainment stuff you can enjoy.
